    About Anifilm

Anifilm is an International Festival of Animated Films that has been held annually in the Czech Republic since 2010. Originally hosted in the historic town of Třeboň, the festival relocated to Liberec, transforming it into a vibrant hub of animation each May. Anifilm showcases the best in global animation, with competitions spanning categories such as feature films for adults and children, short films, student works, music videos, virtual reality, and games. Its Czech Horizon competition focuses on domestic productions, celebrating the richness of Czech animation.

The festival also offers a diverse out-of-competition program, including thematic screenings, professional industry panels, exhibitions, animation workshops, concerts, and theatre performances. With over 400 films and more than 50 professional programs annually, Anifilm has become one of Europe’s leading platforms for animated storytelling and creative innovation.

    The Impact of Anifilm

Anifilm has earned its reputation as a premier animation festival, providing a stage for innovative creators and diverse formats. As an Oscar-qualifying festival, its short film category elevates winners to global recognition, with notable past honorees like “The World of Tomorrow” by Don Hertzfeldt and “Oh Willy…” by Emma de Swaef and Marc J. Roels. Feature film winners have included acclaimed works such as “Anomalisa” by Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson and “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya” by Isao Takahata.

Anifilm’s dedication to showcasing the best in animation extends beyond competitions. Its Industry Programme fosters collaboration and growth within the animation sector, while its thematic blocks and workshops inspire both professionals and audiences. With its unique blend of art, technology, and storytelling, Anifilm continues to transform Liberec into a global animation epicentre, celebrating creativity and pushing the boundaries of the medium.
