Established by parliamentary act in 1997 and operating under Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, Den norske filmskolen is Norway’s national centre for professional film training. Initially based in Lillehammer—site of the 1994 Winter Olympics—it expanded to an Oslo campus in 2019, offering six-semester conservatoire degrees in directing, producing, cinematography, editing, sound and production design.
Admission is cohort-based (approx. 60 students across all disciplines every two years), ensuring generous equipment access and project budgets funded by the Ministry of Culture. Teaching combines Scandinavian storytelling traditions with cutting-edge technology—including Norway’s first LED volume for virtual production.
Award-Winning Alumni
Graduates have received Cannes Semaine de la Critique, European Film Award and Oscar nominations, notably Eskil Vogt (The Worst Person in the World) and Itonje Søimer Guttormsen (Gritt).

Sustainability Leadership
Its Green Production Lab pilots carbon-accounting tools now required by the Norwegian Film Institute for public funding.
